If you have ever needed a way to boost your immune system and feel healthier, adequate water intake is a sure bet.
Water is a readily available and affordable natural item that has loads of benefit for your body. It is a major component of the blood. As such, it carries oxygen round the body. Oxygen, as we know, is highly important for the proper functioning of our bodies.
Why is Water intake so important?
Taking water instead of soda or sweetened drinks can reduce tooth decay. In addition, swapping out your sweetened drinks for water lowers your calorie intake, thus, reducing your risk for obesity and certain diseases.
Staying hydrated also gives you that awesome glow you deserve (although genes may contribute to fabulous skin) as dehydration predisposes you to premature wrinkling.
Did you know your bowels require water to function properly? If you're frequently constipated, improving your water intake habits will surely leave you feeling better. Staying hydrated allows for easy lubrication of your joints and tissues, thus protecting them.
Proper hydration is a necessity in the regulation of your body temperature. Although sweat cools your body, if you don't take enough water to make up for fluid lost, your body temperature will be elevated.
Water is very important for your kidneys. The kidneys are responsible for getting rid of waste products and toxins. You'll be making their job more difficult if your intake of water isn’t enough. Moreover, being dehydrated over a long period of time predisposes you to kidney stones.
How much and what can I do?
The goal is to drink up to 3 litres daily. Be intentional! One way to be intentional about your water intake is to take a glass of water before brushing in the morning and another glass before bedtime. You can also purchase a calibrated water bottle to help you evaluate your water intake or set a daily reminder in your device or download apps that help.
If, for some reason you hate the thought or taste of water, it is also healthy to spice up your water intake by infusing slices of lemon or cucumber into your glass of water.
Take a step towards your ideal health today by being deliberate about your water intake!
